Total distance = 1200 km

 

ASSUMPTION :

Let the actual speed of the flight be x km/hr.

 

CALCULATION :

ATQ,

1200/(x - 200) – 1200/x = 1

⇒ 1200x – 1200x + 240000 = x2 – 200x

⇒ x2 – 200x – 240000 = 0

⇒ x2 – 600x + 400x – 240000 = 0

⇒ (x – 600)(x + 400) = 0

⇒ x = -400, 600

We take the positive value of x. So actual speed of flight = 600 km/hr

Speed after slow down = 600 – 200 = 400 km/hr

Time taken by flight = 1200/400 = 3 hours

Duration of flight is 3 hours.
