A train starts from Panipat at 6:00 a.m. and reaches Pathankot at 10 a.m. The other train starts from Pathankot at 8 a.m. and reaches Panipat at 11:30 a.m. If the distance between Panipat and Pathankot is 28 km, then at what time did the two trains meet each other?

A train starts from Panipat at 6:00 a.m. and reaches Pathankot at 10 a.m. The other train starts from Pathankot at 8 a.m. and reaches Panipat at 11:30 a.m. If the distance between Panipat and Pathankot is 28 km, then at what time did the two trains meet each other? Correct Answer 8:56 am

GIVEN :

Let the distance between Panipat and Pathankot be 28 km

CALCULATION :

The Speed of the train starting from Panipat = 28/4 = 7 km/h

The Speed of train starting from Pathankot = 28/3.5 = 8 km/h

Suppose the two trains meet x hours after 6.00 am

Then x × 7 + (x - 2) x 8 = 28

or, 7x + 8x - 16 = 28

or, 15x = 44

or, x = 44/15 = 2h 56 min

Hence, the required time = 8:56 am

The question below is followed by two statements I and II. You have to determine whether the data given is sufficient for answering the question. You should use the data and your knowledge of mathematics to choose the best possible answer. Train A departs at 9 : 20 am and train B departs at 10 : 50 am and they travel towards each other. After how much amount of time will the trains meet? I) Train A travels with a speed of 10 kmph and the difference between the speed of two trains is 6 kmph and both the trains are 160 km apart. II) Train B travels at a speed greater than Train A which travels with 10 kmph by 6kmph separated by a distance of 160 km.
Consider the given question and decide which of the following statement is sufficient to answer the question. Two trains X and Y starts from point A and B respectively towards each other. What is the distance between them when they start? Statements: 1. When both trains cross each other, the time taken by train X to reach B is twice the time taken by train Y to reach A. 2. Distance between them after 120 min. is 240 km.
