The following question have three statements. Study the question and the statements and decide which of the statement(s) is/are necessary to answer the question. Find the ratio of petrol and kerosene oil in the mixture. Statement I: The price of petrol is Rs. 70 per litre and that of kerosene oil is Rs. 50 per litre. Statement II: If mixture is sold at Rs. 80 per litre, profit of 20% is earned. Statement III: Total quantity of the mixture is 25 litres. Correct Answer Statement I and Statement II together are sufficient to answer the question.

Statement I and II:

Suppose the quantities of petrol and kerosene oil are ‘x’ and ‘y’ litres;

∴ 1.2 × (70x + 50y) = 80 × (x + y)

⇒ 84x + 60y = 80x + 80y

⇒ 4x = 20y

⇒ x : y = 5 : 1

∴ Ratio of petrol and kerosene oil in the mixture = 5 : 1

Statement III is not required to get the answer.

∴ Statement I and Statement II together are sufficient to answer the question
