Below is given a question followed by four statements I, II, & III. The question may (or may not) be answered using any or more of the given statements. You have to decide which of these statement(s) is/are sufficient to answer the given question. Pick out the appropriate option. Find the value of x I. Kiran and Rajpal can do a piece of work in x days II. Mahesh is twice efficient then Kiran III. Kiran can do work in x + 80 days and Rajpal can do in x + 20 days
Kiran can do work in x + 80 days and Rajpal can do in x + 20 days Correct Answer I and III are sufficient
Statement I
1/Kiran + 1/ Rajpal = 1/x
Statement II
Efficiency of Mahesh = 2 × Efficiency of Kiran
Statement III
⇒ 1/(x + 80) + 1/(x + 20) = 1/x
⇒ (x + 20 + 80 + x) / (x + 80)(x + 20) = 1/x
⇒ 100x + 2x2 = x2 + 100x + 1600
⇒ x2 = 1600
⇒ x = 40
∴ Statement II is not sufficient, I & III is needed to answer the question
