A mother goes to school to pick up her son by car from school every day. The school gets over 2 P.M daily but one day her son bunk the school at 1:00 pm and starts walking towards home at 9 km/hr. He meets his mother on the way and reaches home 30 minutes earlier than every day. Find the speed of the mother at which she drives the car. Correct Answer 27 km/hr
Given:
Speed of son = 9 km/hr
Due to covering some distance in advance by a son, time saved = 30 minutes.
Concept used:
Time is inversely proportional to Speed.
Calculations:
On saving total of 30 minutes implies that they save 15 minutes on each side.
They meet at 1: 45 pm
On walking 45 minutes, the son covered the distance which his mother covered in 15 minutes.
The ratio of time of son to mother = 3 ∶ 1
The ratio of the speed of son to mother = 1 ∶ 3
↓×9 ↓×9
9 27
∴ The speed of the mother at which she drives the car is 27 km/hr.
