A train is traveling at a speed of 96 kilometers per hour. It takes 3 seconds to enter a tunnel and 30 seconds more to pass through it completely. Which of the following statements are correct? A. Length of the tunnel is 100 meters B. Tunnel is longer than train C. Train is longer than the tunnel D. Length of the train is 80 meters E. Length of the tunnel is 800 meters Choose the correct answer from the options given below:
A train is traveling at a speed of 96 kilometers per hour. It takes 3 seconds to enter a tunnel and 30 seconds more to pass through it completely. Which of the following statements are correct? A. Length of the tunnel is 100 meters B. Tunnel is longer than train C. Train is longer than the tunnel D. Length of the train is 80 meters E. Length of the tunnel is 800 meters Choose the correct answer from the options given below: Correct Answer B, D and E only
Given:
Speed of train = 96 km/h
time is taken to cross itself = 3 sec
time is taken to cross tunnel = 33 seconds
Formulae required:
Distance = speed × time
a km/hr = a × 5/18 m/sec
Calculations:
convert 96km/hr in to meter/sec = 96 × 5/18
⇒ 80/3 meters/seconds
Length of train = 80/3 × 3
⇒ 80 meters
Distance covered in 33 seconds = 80/3 × 33
⇒ 880 meters
Length of tunnel = Distance covered in 33 seconds - length of train
⇒ 880 - 80 = 800 meters
∴ Statement B, C and E are correct.
