In order to travel from Bangalore to Pune which are 800 km apart, Kishore has to maintain an average speed of 80 km/hr. Due to a problem in his car, Kishor travels half of the journey at 55 km/hr. What must be his speed in second half, to maintain the same average speed?
In order to travel from Bangalore to Pune which are 800 km apart, Kishore has to maintain an average speed of 80 km/hr. Due to a problem in his car, Kishor travels half of the journey at 55 km/hr. What must be his speed in second half, to maintain the same average speed? Correct Answer 146.52 km/hr
Distance between Bangalore and Pune = 800 km
Speed in first half of the journey = 55 km/hr
Let the speed in second half of the journey = x km/hr
Average speed = 80 km/hr
Time taken to cover first half of the journey = 400/55
Time taken to cover second half of the journey = 400/x
Average Speed = (Total distance travelled)/(Total time taken)
⇒ 80 = 800/(400/55 + 400/x)
⇒ 400/55 + 400/x = 10
⇒ 7.27 + 400/x = 10
⇒ 400/x = 2.73
⇒ x = 400/2.73
⇒ x = 146.52 km/hr
∴ required speed in second half = 146.52 km/hr
