Given below are two quantities named A & B. Based on the given information; you have to determine the relation between the two quantities. You should use the given data and your knowledge of Mathematics to choose between the possible answers. Quantity A: A container is full of acid. 56 litres of acid is drawn and replaced with water and this operation is done 3 more times. If the ratio of Acid and water at the end was 16 : 65 then find the initial amount of acid in the container. Quantity B: Tea worth of Rs. 135/kg & Rs. 126/kg are mixed with a third variety in the ratio 1 : 1 : 2. If the mixture is sold at Rs. 168.3 per kg to earn 10% profit, then what will be the per kg price of third variety of tea?

If the mixture is sold at Rs. 168.3 per kg to earn 10% profit, then what will be the per kg price of third variety of tea? Correct Answer Quantity A < Quantity B

Quantity A:

Suppose the initial amount of acid in the container was ‘x’ litres;

Since the ratio of Acid and water at the end was 16 : 65;

∴ Suppose the final quantity of acid is 16a and initial quantity is (16 + 65) a;

∴ 16a = (16 + 65) a × 4

⇒ 16/81 = 4

⇒ 2/3 =

⇒ x = 168

∴ Initial amount of acid in the container was 168 litres.

Quantity B:

Since the mixture is sold at Rs. 168.3 per kg to earn 10% profit;

∴ Cost price of the mixture = 168.3/1.1 = Rs. 153 per kg

Suppose the per kg price of third variety of tea is Rs. x;

Since three varieties are mixed in the ratio 1 : 1 : 2;

∴ 135 × a + 126 × a + x × 2a = 153 × 4a

⇒ 261 + 2x = 612

⇒ 2x = 351

⇒ x = 175.5

∴ Price of third variety of tea is Rs. 175.5 per kg.

∴ Quantity A < Quantity B
