Let the numbers be 2x, 5x and 7x

Given, 2x + 7x = 5x + 16

⇒ 9x – 5x = 16

⇒ 4x = 16

∴ x = 16/4 = 4

∴ Smallest number = 2x = 2 × 4 = 8
