A villager buys a goat and a sheep together for Rs. 14,250. He sold the sheep at a profit of 10% and the goat at a loss of 20%. If he sold both the animals at the same price, then what was the cost price of the cheaper animal? Correct Answer 6000
⇒ Selling price = {Cost price × (1 + Profit %)}/100
Let cost price of sheep and goat be x and y
⇒ x + y = 14250 ----(1)
ATQ,
Selling price of goat = selling price of sheep
⇒ 1.1x = 0.8y
⇒ y = 11x/8
From (1),
⇒ x + 11x/8 = 14250
⇒ x = 6000
⇒ y = (11 × 6000)/8 = 8250
∴ Cheaper animal cost Rs. 6000
