The question below is followed by two statements I and II. You have to determine whether the data given in the statement is sufficient for answering the question. You should use the data and your knowledge of Mathematics to choose the best possible answer. What is the sum of two numbers? I. Difference between the numbers is 1/3 of their product. II. Difference between the numbers is 20% of their product.
Correct Answer If the data given in both statements I and II together is not sufficient to answer the question.
From I, x – y = xy/3
⇒ We cannot get the value of X and Y from this equation.
From II, x – y = 20% of xy
⇒ x – y = xy/5
⇒ We cannot get the value of x and y from this equation.
∴ The data given in both statements I and II together is not sufficient to answer the question
