Let, the price of each pen be 1 Tk.

∴ Then the cost price of n pens is n Tk.

∴ And the selling price of n pens is 10 Tk.

Loss = n - 10

According to the question

$n - 10 = n o f 40 %$

$\Rightarrow n - 10 = \frac{40 \times n}{100}$

$\Rightarrow n - 10 = \frac{2 n}{5}$

$\Rightarrow 5 n - 50 = 2 n$

$\Rightarrow 5 n - 2 n = 50$

$\Rightarrow 3 n = 50$

$∴ n = \frac{50}{3} = 16.67 = 17 (a p p r o x)$
