How to Cook Lamb Steaks
Lamb steaks are a delicious way to experience savory, juicy lamb. When cooked properly, lamb steaks make a satisfying meal that will be sure to delight all of your guests. Here are some steps to follow to ensure that your lamb steaks are cooked properly.
Preparing the Steaks
- Check to make sure that the steaks are at room temperature. Lamb steaks often come pre-packed and stored for a few days to weeks, and may need a few hours to come to room temperature once they have been removed from their packaging.
- Trim away the excess fat. Lamb steaks are naturally fatty, so it is best to trim away any extra fat before cooking.
- Pat the steaks dry before you begin cooking. This helps the steaks to sear more evenly in the pan.
Cooking the Steaks
- Heat a heavy-based frying pan over high heat. Make sure the pan is large enough to fit all the steak pieces without overcrowding.
- Add enough oil that it reaches halfway up the sides of the steaks. Swirl the oil around in the pan to coat it evenly.
- When the oil is hot, add the steaks to the pan and cook for about 3 minutes. Flip the steaks over and cook for an additional 3 minutes.
- Reduce the heat to medium-low and continue to cook the steaks for 8-10 minutes, flipping them over occasionally.
- When the steaks are cooked to your desired doneness, remove them from the pan and allow them to rest for 5-10 minutes before serving.
