Changing the HID Headlights on a 2007 Prius Without Removing Bumper

If your 2007 Prius's HID headlights have burn out or become damaged, you can replace them yourself without having to remove the car's bumper. Follow these steps to change out your HID headlights quickly and safely.

  1. Locate the vehicles battery. The battery is located in the engine compartment near the front passenger side wheel
  2. Locate the fuse box in the engine compartment. You will find a black cover with the words “Fuse Box” written in white
  3. Remove the battery fuse cover from the fuse box. This will allow you to access the fuses that control the HID headlights
  4. Locate the headlights fuse. Remove the 10-amp fuse with a flathead screwdriver
  5. Lift the hood and locate the headlight assembly. Move to the opposite side of the car and do the same
  6. On each headlight assembly, locate the tab that holds the back cover to the headlights housing
  7. Using the flathead screwdriver, pry the headlight cover off of the housing. This will expose the HID bulb
  8. Unplug the connector from the HID bulb and remove the bulb from the housing
  9. Clean the inside of the headlight assembly with a lint-free rag
  10. Insert the new bulb into the headlight assembly and plug the connector into the new bulb
  11. Replace the back cover to the headlight assembly
  12. Replace the 10-amp fuse to the fuse box
  13. Turn on the headlights to ensure they work
  14. Once you have confirmed the headlights work, replace the fuse box cover and close the hood
