How to Sauté Vegetables
Adding sautéed vegetables to meals is an easy and tasty way to increase your daily vegetables intake. Sautéing your vegetables is also a healthful and flavorful way to prepare them.
Instructions
- Heat the cooking oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
- Chop the vegetables into bite-sized pieces. The size of the pieces will depend on the vegetables you're using, but all pieces should be small enough to cook quickly.
- Add the vegetables to the hot pan and season with preferred herbs and spices.
- Saute the vegetables for three to four minutes, stirring frequently. The vegetables will cook quickly, so do not walk away from the stove.
- Reduce the heat to low and add a few tablespoons of liquid such as water, white wine, or broth, if desired. Make sure the liquid covers the bottom of the skillet.
- Cover the pan and cook the vegetables for an additional three to five minutes, stirring once or twice. This will add steam and help the vegetables to cook more quickly. Remove the lid from the skillet and test the vegetables to make sure they’re cooked to your liking.
- Serve the vegetables warm and enjoy!
