What if the sealer is too shiny, or when I scratch it a light film comes off? Can I buff the floor to remove the thin layer and remove some of the shine?

Yes, that is an easy fix. Also try lemongrass oil, a natural way to fill small scratches. In larger amounts it seals without a high shine.
