What's wrong with writing your own story? You can't stop your imagination willingly, so you might as well see where it takes you. But if you really want to read a novel without such thoughts, you can try to focus on analyzing what you are reading to "substitute" the thoughts. This would be the ideal way to read the novel with a better understanding of it. But realistically, it can't be helped.
