You generally need to cut a hydrangea at an angle. It increases the surface area for your hydrangea to take in water on the bottom. You can also scrape the outer edges lightly—that also helps it to take in more water. Sometimes you can even bring cut hydrangeas back from being wilted by cutting them at an angle and scraping the outside about 1-1.5 inches up.
