Plywood is very porous, which means that you'll have to use a plywood-specific primer. It will seal the wood pores and blocks stains from coming through. and prevents water from building up inside of the wood and causing damage.want to get a primer that seals would pores and will block any stains from coming through. Once the primer is dry, you can paint over it.
