How do you build a photo frame shelf?

Photo frame shelves are often U-shaped with one side shorter than the other. To build a photo frame you will need to get a 1x4x6 board or you can use wooden planks to give it a more rustic style. You will want to cut 3 identical pieces in length for your shelf. Then using a saw bench, cut one of the 3 planks in half lengthwise to obtain a 1x2 piece that will be used for the edge of the shelf. Screw the 2 1x4 planks together with 1 ½ in. screws. Attach the 1x2 border with 2" finishing nails to form a U shape. Your shelf is finished. For installation: Place the shortest side towards you and screw the 1x4 board directly into the studs of your wall. You can now place photo frames or even children's books on it.
