I have just rolled out fondant and put it on a cake, but it cracked around the edges and sides. I was told to knead the fondant well to prevent elephant skin. Could it be that I kneaded it too much?

Add water to the cracked areas, or if that doesn't work, take the fondant off the cake and knead it until it is softer.
