Some cats stop grooming when they're too obese to reach certain areas of their bodies, while senior cats may stop grooming due to arthritis or a dental disease. Other cats may stop grooming while dealing with medical issues. If your cat was abandoned as a kitten, they may have never learned the proper way to groom, so they don't do it as an adult.
