The best advice I can give to a beginner is just to have fun with it—there are no rules for cooking. Be willing to know that you're going to make mistakes but learn from those mistakes. It's okay if you make something and it doesn't turn out exactly the way you want. Just be prepared for trial and error, and don't put too much pressure on yourself to make the perfect rib or whatever the first time. If you're making ribs for the first time, I would say don't over-season and don't overcook them.
