If the bulb is protected by glass or plastic shielding, and you're replacing the entire housing, then you likely won't need gloves. Gloves are very important if the bulb itself is exposed, however, since oils from your skin can significantly shorten the bulb's life. If you don't have gloves handy, a non-linen cloth will work in a pinch.
