You can treat a ratio as a fraction or a division problem: 1:4 = 1 / 4 = 1 ÷ 4. Solve this problem with long division (or a calculator) and you'll get the answer as a decimal: 0.25. To make this a percent, just move the decimal point two spaces to the right: 0.25 = 25%.
