Yes, but if you're cutting a stem, you have to cut it at a 45° angle. When you water an elephant ear, the water actually goes all the way up the stem and it can drip out of the leaf. So if you cut the stem away from the plant, the juices will flow into the soil instead of into the plant. After you take the cutting, dip it in rooting powder and put it in water for a period of time, then transplant it into the soil.
