I have older stones that belonged to my father and he used oil and water on these stones. But I'm not sure which is for water and which is for oil since I have no directions or don't know what Kind of stones they are. There are dark grey stones, lighter brown stones and red stones. One is white.

If you're unsure what you have and don't want to clean it with the wrong substance, take the stones to a local knife and tool sharpener. They should be able to tell you exactly what you have and how to care for the stones.
