What if I have a rust ring from patio furniture on the existing concrete -- will it show up even if I get the rust out with a power washer?

If you get it out completely, it won't. Be aware that ANY variances in the concrete texture, color, etc. will be accentuated by the stain. When staining, it is vital that you understand no two square feet are going to look the same. Unlike a paint or epoxy coating, you are simply accentuating your existing concrete, which already has many variances.
