As far as I know, lasers use a set of lenses to direct a cut with a beam. Unless it is an abrasive type of laser like a water one, you might be thinking of a 3D extruder which uses different nozzle sizes for the material you're printing and detail level that you need. In that case it would depend on the specific type.
