It really depends on the publication and the terms of service. Sometimes, travel bloggers have traditional remote jobs or freelance jobs. I used to freelance a long time ago for a lifestyle website, and it was a project by project basis. Usually, you travel, submit your work, make the requested edits and then you get paid. Not really any secrets there.
