To hit a helicopter shot one must have a tight grip on the handle. This shot works best for a Yorker (ball pitches closer to the batsman). The batsman must swing the bat mostly towards straight, mid-on or mid-off direction such that he rotates his bat, pushing the ball forward. He must swing his bat fully in a circular manner and land it back in his crease. This is an excellent lifted shot as it generates more power to carry the ball for a longer distance. Former Indian captain M.S Dhoni specialized in this type of shot.
