Swollen and tender jaw lymph nodes are caused by an infection of the organs that drain into them such as the oral cavity or ear or throat. It is common for those to be swollen during or after an active infection and be movable when you palpate them. Once infection is resolved those lymph nodes shrink. While they still may be palpable and movable, they should not feel tender.
