If the foreign language you are teaching adults uses a different alphabet, then you should go over the letters and how each one is pronounced. Even if the foreign language uses the English alphabet but some of the letters are pronounced differently, you should still go over it with them. You could also teach them some useful phrases such as "Hello" and "Goodbye."
