The easiest method is to tie your strings together or secure them in a clip to hold while you braid. Also, make sure to stop every few steps to detangle any length of string to make sure the piece you are working on is not getting messed up. Working with smaller lengths of string to practice a new type of braid will be beneficial before creating a long one so you can feel confident in the method.
