A friend said that not wearing a belt is considered sloppy and unprofessional in the workplace. I don't agree. Thoughts?

It depends. As long as your clothes fit well, you really shouldn't need one. Some outfits will look terrible with a belt, but if your pants are loose-fitting it's probably a good idea. It's definitely not an always/never situation.
