I have been at layer 40 lots and I have been in lots of swamps at nighttime, so why aren't I seeing any slimes?

Usually they will not spawn the first two nights you spend in the swamp. It may take a while for them to actually spawn near you. It also depends on the moon phase. New moon, no slimes. Full moon, increased chance of slimes.
