There are special clips that hold on the sides and corners of mirrors to support the weight (the more clips the better). I have always found putting some silicone onto these before fixing is a good way to limit chipping and cracking. If you are a little more DIY savvy, you could drill the mirror (with a diamond drill bit) and mount it with mirror screws, which are screws with a brass or chrome dome.
