How do I help my 12-year-old child that likes watching TV and is lazy when it comes to reading? He also does not respond in class.

I would suggest you use television as a motivation and reward. For example, tell him he can watch a 30 minute TV show AFTER reading a book for 30 minutes. If he doesn't read, he doesn't get the TV time. If you're talking about free time reading as opposed to studying, make sure you're supplying him with books he would actually be interested in. Take him to a library or book store and let him pick something himself. As for the classroom behavior, ask him why he's not responding, then try to work on the issue. Does he not know the answers? Then he needs to study more. Is he too shy? Have a talk with him about the importance of coming out of your comfort zone.
