I use a 3 reed, but due to the results of Bell's Palsy, I struggle to play for any length of time. Could a different mouthpiece with a softer reed achieve the same tone and control with less resistance?

Using a 2-2 1/2 reed might make it a little bit easier. Beginners play with this type of reed, so it shouldn't take a ton of effort.
