(a) when gas expands into vacuum, P= 0 Therefore, w= -PΔV i.e w = 0
(b) If the external opposing pressure is 1.2 atm, then w= - PΔV
W = -1.2(7.0-3.0) =- 4.8 L atm
W = -4.8 x 101.3 = -486.24 J
