Concept:
- Hematemesis -> blood vomiting
- Tear in the esophagus, excessive vomiting, varices
- Antibiotics, potassium chloride, NSAID's can also lead to hematemesis
Explanation:
- While the patient is having hematemesis they need to be diagnosed even for peptic ulcer, esophageal varices, gastritis etc.,
- Gastritis -> infection and inflammation of gastric mucosa
- Peptic ulcer -> ulceration of gastric lining
- Esophageal varices -> enlarged veins in the esophagus
- NBM -> Nil by mouth where patient will not be allowed to take anything by mouth
- Solid diet -> diet which comprises of all forms of foods
- Liquid diet -> includes fruit juice, java, malt, coconut water, buttermilk, glucose and ORS
- Low fiber diet -> given for IBS, chron disease, ulcerative colitis, diverticulitis
