Option 1 : Mathematics is a way of thinking
According to the National Curriculum Framework (NCF) 2005, the main goal of Mathematics education in schools is the 'mathematization' of a child's thinking. Clarity of thought and pursuing assumptions to logical conclusions are central to the mathematical enterprise. The vision of the National Curriculum Framework 2005 for mathematics and its pedagogy:
- Enable students to recognize that mathematics permeates the world around us.
- Make students appreciate the usefulness, power, and beauty of mathematics.
- Make students enjoy mathematics and develop patience and persistence when solving problems.
- NCF considers mathematics as a way of thinking in which students explore various concepts.
- NCF also focuses on engaging every student with a sense of success, while at the same time offering conceptual challenges to the emerging mathematician.
Hence the statement "Mathematics is a way of thinking" resonates with the vision of the National Curriculum Framework 2005 for mathematics and its pedagogy. On the other hand, computation, creating competition and regular tests can't justify the vision of mathematics pedagogy according to NCF.
