Option 4 : IgG
Concept:
- Maternal immunoglobulin G (IgG) is transported across the placenta mainly by an active, neonatal Fc receptor mediated process during pregnancy.
Note ->
- IgG -> Crosses placenta
- IgM -> Is found is breast milk
- Placental transfer of maternal IgG antibodies to the fetus is an important mechanism that provides protection to the infant while his/her humoral response is not responding properly.
- IgG is the only antibody class that significantly crosses the human placenta.
- Immunoglobulins, are also known as antibodies these are the glycoprotein molecules produced by plasma cells (white blood cells). They act as a critical part of the immune response by specifically recognizing and then binding to particular antigens, such as bacteria or viruses, and aiding in their destruction.
Types of Immunoglobulins
- IgM is the largest antibody, first antibody to appear in response to initial exposure to antigen.
- IgA helps in immune function of mucous membranes.
- IgD helps to transmits signals for B cell activation.
- IgG is the main type of antibody found in blood and extracellular fluid to control infection of body tissues.
- IgE responses in the allergic reactions.
