Mapping is not only used in EVS but also in mathematics. Here it serves a different purpose than in other subjects, it is not limited to drawing a map of one's surroundings.

Mapping encourages students

To develop the powers of thinking and reasoning like spatial, proportional, and divergent thinking.
To solve mathematical problems of daily life.
To understand and acquainted with the environment and culture
To prepare the child for various technical and general future professions.
To prepare the child for higher study.
To develop in the child the power for invention.

Hence mapping in mathematics is not limited to drawing a map of one's surroundings.
