Option 3 : (b) and (c)
Errors play an important role in the mathematics learning process, errors should be taken as steps for rectifying the misconceptions of the students rather than blaming them.
Importance of errors in mathematics
- If a student gets curious about a mathematical problem gets the confidence to do it and later commits an error, he should be congratulated for at least trying.
- Errors can turn into important tools for teachers to know about misconceptions of students and clear them.
- The point where the student commits an error indicates the area where the student is lagging behind and immediately teacher can act according to it.
- The teacher should provide sufficiently challenging tasks in which students might make errors so that the understanding and problem-solving ability of students can be calculated.
On the other hand the statement "If a student is making a lot of errors in mathematics, this means that he cannot do mathematics" is not true in the context of error because the error is also considered a part of learning.
