Teaching strategies refer to the methods adopted by the teacher to assist the children throughout the learning process.
The division is the process of dividing a number into equal parts and determining how many equal parts can be formed. Teaching division can seem complicated but by using appropriate strategies the teacher can make it easy.
- Strategies for introducing division-
- Sharing in equal groups- It helps children grasp division easily if they can visualize a set of things being divided equally. Using equal group distribution word problems will help children to visualize and also relate the classroom to the real-world experience.
- Repeated subtraction- In this method, the children will keep subtracting groups until they are left with zero or a remainder.
- Using manipulatives- Manipulatives are little items that represent numerical values in math problems for example- stones, coins, marbles, etc. Children will be able to see and touch these items which will help them understand the mathematical concepts better.
Hence, we conclude that the most appropriate for introducing division in the classroom is option 4.
- The teacher should introduce division by relating it to the idea of sharing which will help children to understand the concept of division better.
