Option 2 : Commutative and Associative

Multiplication is one of the 4 basic operations in mathematics and it has many properties like associative, commutative, identity, and distributive.

In the above example, commutative and associative properties are followed

  • Commutative property : a x (b x c) = (a x b) x c
    • According to the above example
    • (18 × 25) × 4 = 18 × (25 × 4)
    • So the student has used the commutative property.
  • Associative property : a x b = b x a
    • According to the above example
    • 18 × 100 = 100 x 18 = 1800
    • So the student has used the associative property as well.

Hence the student has used Commutative and Associative Properties.

Identity property
  • a x 1 = a
Distributive property
  • a(b+c) = ab + ac
  • a(b-c) = ab - ac
