Option 3 : Teacher allows each student to classify in their own way and discuss them.
Science is considered to be a subject of discovery and enquiry where the students will be given the freedom to explore and experiment with various variables, and concepts and construct authentic knowledge. Teacher allowing each student to classify the plants in their way and discuss them promotes enquiry teaching as:
- Forcing all the students to classify the plants in the same way given in the textbook may reduce their scope for exploration.
- When the students are given a chance to classify the plants in their way there will be freedom and scope for enquiry and discovery.
- Here the students first explore the various plants in their way and according to their knowledge and then try to classify the plants.
- Here there will be no scope for rote memorization as students are allowed to go beyond the textbook and choose their method.
Hence teacher allowing each student to classify the plants in their way and discuss them promotes enquiry teaching.
- On the other hand, the teacher directly explaining, giving rules for classification and conducting a field trip to show plants does not lead to discovery skills in students because here the involvement of the teacher will be more than students in the whole process.
