Option 1 : Ultrafiltration
Concept:
- Hemodialysis is a process of purifying the blood of a person whose kidneys failed to function normally
- Fluid removal (ultrafiltration) is achieved by altering the hydrostatic pressure of the dialysate compartment, causing free water and some dissolved solutes to move across the membrane along a created pressure gradient.
- Ultra filtration is filtration through a medium which allows small molecules to pass but holds back larger ones
- Ultra filtration removes bacteria, protozoa and some viruses from the water
- Osmosis -> the spontaneous passage or diffusion of water or other solvents through a semipermeable membrane
- Diffusion -> the process resulting from random motion of molecules by which there is a net flow of matter from a region of high concentration to a region of low concentration
- Perfusion -> the passage of blood, a blood substitute, or other fluid through the blood vessels or other natural channels in an organ or tissue.
