  • Shifting cultivation is a primitive form of agriculture in which a plot of land is cultivated for a few years and then it is deserted. 
  • This is generally carried out in the north-eastern parts of India in the jungles such as in Assam, Meghalaya, Mizoram etc. 
  • Since the yield from a plot decreases after a few years, it is deserted and a fresh plot is chosen for farming.
